PATRIOT LEAGUE RELEASE
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh right-side hitter Ana Spangenberg was tabbed the Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week as the league announced its award winners on Monday. The sophomore led the Mountain Hawks to a pair of Patriot League wins over Colgate and Holy Cross as Lehigh opened its league slate over the weekend. Lehigh is now 11-5 on the season and is currently riding a six-match winning streak.
Spangenberg accounted for over a third of Lehigh's offensive production on the week as she led the team with 5.67 kills per set on a team-best .408 hitting percentage. The right-side hitter led all players with 15 kills on a .382 hitting percentage in Lehigh's league-opening win over Colgate last Friday. She led all players again on Saturday with 19 kills and a .432 attack percentage in Lehigh's 3-0 victory over Holy Cross.
During Lehigh's six-match run, Spangenberg is averaging a team-high 4.05 kills per set to go along with a .305 hitting percentage. She has reached double-digit kills in 11 of the last 12 matches and has reached 15 or more kills in four of those matches. She has also hit .300 or better in seven matches this season, including three of the last four.
This is the first Patriot League weekly award for Lehigh this season and the second Player of the Week honor for Spangenberg in her young career.
Lehigh will remain at home for two more matches this weekend. The Mountain Hawks will host rival Lafayette on Saturday at 4 p.m. before closing out the weekend with Bucknell at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
