Lehigh Opens League Play with 3-0 Win Over Colgate

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks opened their Patriot League slate with a big 3-0 victory over Colgate on Friday night inside an electric Grace Hall as they extend their win streak to five-straight matches.
Lehigh (10-5) collectively hit .294 on the night and out-blocked Colgate (9-4) 8-4, while holding the Raiders to their second-lowest attack percentage of the season (.151). Ana Spangenberg led all players once again with 15 kills on a sparkling .382 hitting percentage. Sabrina Lancaster also reached double-figures with 10 kills while hitting a strong .348 for the match. Lauren Bright led all players with four blocks and recorded nine kills on a season-high .571 hitting percentage.
The first set had a lot of offense as both teams hit over .320 and combined for 21 kills. The set was highlighted by a 10-0 come-from-behind run by Lehigh to win the set, 25-20. LU trailed 20-15 when Allison Garrett took over the serving duties. The freshman recorded four service aces on the run while LU combined for four kills en route to a first set victory.
Collectively, neither team hit well in the second set, but Spangenberg put together a stellar performance with six kills on a .308 percentage to lead all players drive Lehigh to a 25-20 set win.
After a back-and-forth battle to start the third set, Lehigh turned up the offense in the middle of the set and pulled away. The Mountain Hawks went on a 15-3 run after trailing by two to take a 24-15 lead and eventually win the set 25-17. Lancaster led the charge with six kills, while Spangenberg tacked on five kills of her own.
Lehigh will look to continue the win streak and remain undefeated in the league with a matchup against Holy Cross on Saturday. Opening serve is set for 4 p.m. inside Grace Hall.
