Volleyball Opens League Play with Pair of Home Weekend Matches

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks return home this weekend and open up Patriot League play with Colgate on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a Saturday league matchup with Holy Cross at 4 p.m. Friday's match will streamed live on the Patriot League network.

Lehigh (9-5) enters the weekend riding a four-match win streak after sweeping Villanova last Tuesday at home and winning all three matches at the SHU Invitational last weekend. Ana Spangenberg led Lehigh with 43 kills last week with a 3.31 kills-per-set average. Lauren Bright hit .397 last week with 31 total kills and paced LU with 16 total blocks. Megan Polak led Lehigh with 113 assists on the week with an 8.69 assists-per-set average and posted a team-high six service aces. The trio were all named to the SHU Invitational All-Tournament team and Spangenberg was named tournament MVP.

Spangenberg leads LU on the season with 2.97 kills with 145 total kills. Bright is hitting .308 on the season with 2.17 kills per set and leads the team with 1.08 blocks per set. Polak owns a team-leading 8.42 assists-per-set average and Emily Develle paces the squad with 4.53 digs per set.

Colgate (9-3) enters Friday's matchup on a two-match winning streak after posting a 2-1 record last weekend at the Colgate Invitational with wins over La Salle and Cornell. The Raiders are 2-1 in true road matches this season and 2-1 in matches played outside the state of New York.

Colgate leads the Patriot League with a team average of 14.68 kills per set and has held its opponents to a league-low .142 hitting percentage on the season. Alli Lowe leads the Raiders with 3.46 kills per set and 142 total kills, while Lauren Sanderson leads the league with 11.51 assists per set.

Holy Cross (3-10) will start the weekend on a four-match skid after going winless last weekend at the George Washington Invitational. The Crusaders have wins over Fairleigh Dickinson, Manhattan and Rider on the season. They will open Patriot League play on Friday night at Lafayette prior to coming to Bethlehem.

The Crusaders are hitting .146 collectively on the season with 11.5 kills per set. Their leading attacker is Katie Kerins who is averaging 3.63 kills per set with 167 total kills. Sophie VanSeveren leads the league with 5.78 digs per set and Kristen Somerville paces the squad with 1.17 blocks per set.

Lehigh is 18-38 against Colgate in the all-time series and 39-12 against Holy Cross. The Raiders swept the season series last year, but the Mountain Hawks have won three of the last five meetings. The Crusaders won the second meeting last season in Worcester, but Lehigh has won 17 of the last 18 meetings.
