BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Another day, another first team All-America honor for Lehigh junior running back Dominick Bragalone. On Wednesday, Bragalone was named to the AFCA All-America team, the fourth first-team All-America nod for the leading rusher in the FCS and the second in as many days.
Â
So far this postseason, Bragalone has garnered first team honors from the Associated Press, FCS Athletic Directors Association, STATS and now the AFCA. He has also claimed second-team laurels from Phil Steele.
Â
Bragalone is the first Mountain Hawk to garner AFCA All-America honors since Ryan Spadola in 2011.
Â
The Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Year and a first team All-Patriot League and All-ECAC honoree, Bragalone carried 247 times for 1,388 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2017. He leads the FCS in total rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, total touchdowns (22) and scoring (12.0 ppg.).
Â
The first Lehigh player to post three 1,000-yard rushing seasons, Bragalone's 1,388 marked the second highest single-season total in school history as the South Williamsport, Pa. native ends his junior campaign just 129 yards short of Lehigh's career rushing mark of 3,696 held by Rabih Abdullah '97.
Â
Bragalone rushed for 976 yards and 13 touchdowns in six Patriot League games and finished seventh in the final voting for the Walter Payton Award, given to the outstanding offensive player in the FCS.
Â
With Bragalone leading the offense, the Mountain Hawks won their 12th Patriot League football championship and second straight in 2017, going 5-1 in league play as part of a late-season surge that resulted in Lehigh's second consecutive FCS playoff appearance.
