Lehigh Closes Regular Season at Army

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks will close out the regular season Friday Patriot with a trip to Army West Point and have a chance to clinch a Patriot League postseason berth. First serve is for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed live for free on the Patriot League Network.
Lehigh (17-11, 9-6) enters the weekend in fourth place of the Patriot League standings and by weekend's end, can climb as high as third or drop as low as fifth. The Mountain Hawks can secure one of the four postseason spots with a victory over Army (17-10, 10-4) on Friday. Lehigh can jump to third with a win over Army, combined with an Army loss to Navy on Sunday. If the Mountain Hawks lose to Army, they can still get in to the postseason if Colgate loses to either American (Friday) or Lafayette (Sunday). A Lehigh loss, combined with two Colgate wins eliminates Lehigh from the postseason.
The Black Knights have already clinched a postseason spot, but can still improve their seeding with two matches left. With wins over Lehigh and Navy, Army can advance to the No. 2 seed since the Black Knights would have the tiebreaker over Navy after sweeping the Mids during the regular season.
The regular season meeting between Lehigh and Army played culminated in a 3-2 victory for Army, decided by a 27-25 victory by the Black knights after Lehigh had six-straight match point opportunities. Despite the loss, he Mountain Hawks out-scored Army, 117-111, in the match, which could end up working in Lehigh's favor in a tiebreaker situation for seeding.
Lehigh is 4-3 since the last meeting with Army on October 13 and is coming off a big five-set victory over Navy on Tuesday night. Ana Spangenberg recorded her sixth double-double Tuesday night with a career-high 26 kills to go along with 15 digs. Spangenberg has eclipsed the 20-kill mark four times this season, including a 25-kill performance in the first meeting with Army this season.
Julia Pressly and Victoria Hemsath also posted double-digit kill totals the win over Navy. Both players have heated up the last two matches. Pressly has 33 kills, while Hemsath has compiled 26 kills in the last two matches.
Emily Develle led all players with 22 digs Tuesday night with her sixth 20-dig performance of the season. The Lehigh libero has 41 digs in the last two matches combined.
The Black Knights are 5-2 since the first meeting with Lehigh this year. They lead the Patriot League with 14.48 kills per set and rank second with a .261 hitting percentage. Carolyn Bockrath ranks second in the league with a .400 hitting percentage, while Vanessa Wesley ranks third with a percentage of .374. Bockrath is fourth in the League, behind Spangenberg, with 3.52 kills per set, while Amer Clay ranks seventh with 3.06 kills per set.
