Lehigh Keeps Rolling Following 3-0 Win Over Bucknell

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks improve their win streak to eight-straight, including their sixth-straight win at home following a 3-0 Patriot League victory over Bucknell on Sunday afternoon in Grace Hall.
Lehigh (13-5, 4-0) posted its 11th sweep of the season, including its third in league play with Sunday's shutout win over the Bison (8-8, 2-2). The Mountain Hawks have started league play with a 4-0 record in each of the last four seasons and are tied with Navy at the top of the standings as the only teams left undefeated in league play.
The Mountain Hawks out-blocked Bucknell, the Patriot Leagues top blocking team, by a 12-10 margin and held the Bison to a season-low -.011 hitting percentage. Lauren Bright out-performed the league's leader blocker in Bucknell's Mimi Richards by an 8-6 margin in total blocks for the match.
Lehigh was led by committee offensively as no player reached double-figures. Julia Pressly led with seven kills, while Ana Spangenberg and Bright totaled five each. Megan Polak posted a match-high 32 assists to record her fourth-straight match with over 30 assists.
Both teams had a tough first set offensively as neither side hit over .100 collectively in the frame. The Bison posted five total blocks in the set, but were doomed by their 10 attacking errors. With the set tied, 15-15, Lehigh opened up a five-point lead aided by three attacking errors by Bucknell. LU managed to keep the lead and capped off the 25-20 victory with a kill by Bright.
Lehigh found its offensive groove in the second set and hit .345 with just five attack errors in the frame. Bright led the way in the blocking department which contribute to the team's five total blocks in the frame. The Mountain Hawks came out hot and jumped out to a 6-1 lead to start the set. The Bison could not recover from the early deficit as they finished with a .000 hitting percentage in the set and allowed Lehigh to run away with a 25-17 win.
The Mountain Hawks again came out on fire to start the third set, this time opening up a 10-1 advantage. LU took a commanding 20-9 lead, but the errors began to pile up and Bucknell soon found itself trailing by three at 22-19. Lehigh caught a break on an attack by Bucknell and then picked up a kill by Emily Poole before she and Polak combined for the match-ending block. Hannah Wright led the way offensively in the final set with four kills.
After capping off their four-match home stand to open league play, the Mountain Hawks will hit the road for the first time in two weeks to take on four-time defending Patriot League Champion, American, on Friday at 6 p.m. Lehigh will make a quick turnaround and head back home to take on Loyola on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Grace Hall.
