Swimming and Diving Opens Season at Patriot League Foe Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - The Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened its respective 2016-17 seasons on Saturday at Patriot League foe Boston University. The Mountain Hawks fell 173.5-123.5 on the men's side and 169-131 on the women's side. The Brown and White totaled 11 first place finishes on the day.

Senior Jacob Moyar took first place in the 1000 yard freestyle as he touched the wall in a time of 10:00.58. Moyar followed up with another first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.06. Moyar earned his third victory of the day in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:40.50.

Senior Justin White picked up a pair of wins on the day. He placed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.30 and placed first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 46.68. White picked up a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.59.

Junior Zach Tieke placed first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.35. He then placed second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 46.97 and placed third in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.56.

Freshman Walker Wilson started his college career with a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with at time of 52.50. Wilson also placed second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.95. Wilson capped off his day with a third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:45.93.

Freshman Tyler Christ took home a third place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.06.

Senior Justin Kostelnik earned a second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.19. Kostelnik also placed second in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:58.13.

Senior Kaitlyn Ruffing placed first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.61. Ruffing also earned a victory in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.71.

Sophomore Courtney Ferreira earned a victory in the 200 yard freestyle as she touched the wall in a time of 1:52.79. Ferreira also placed first in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:08.91.

Junior Julianne Koch took home the victory in the 200 yard backstroke with a winning time of 2:08.42.

Freshman Payton Miles placed second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.69. Miles also placed second in the 100 yard freestyle with a mark of 52.85.

Senior Kelly Carroll took home a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.33 to go along with a pair of third place finishes in the 200 butterfly and 200 yard IM.

Freshman Nicole Shek earned a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 58.77 to finish .16 seconds off the winning pace. Shek also placed second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.24.

Freshman Loeva Palu-Benson picked up a third place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.49. The freshman placed second in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.04.

Junior Sydney Bornstein placed second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.74.

Freshman Amanda Zlotnikoff earned a third place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.78.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool on Friday for their home opener in a dual meet against West Chester starting at 5 p.m.
