Lehigh continues home action against Villanova Tuesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team looks upon its four-match winning streak Tuesday when Mountain Hawks host in-state foe Villanova inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
Lehigh enters Tuesday's match with a 5-2 overall record and the Mountain Hawks are coming off a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Crosstown Invitational. Three of the first four Lehigh victories resulted in 3-0 sweeps over Fairleigh Dickinson, Marist and Saint Peter's. The Mountain Hawks followed those victories with a 3-1 win over Morehead State to clinch the Crosstown Invitational title. Senior Ana Vrhel and freshman Emily Develle earned spots on the All-Tournament team. Vhrel compiled 29 kills, a .418 hitting percentage, and 12 total blocks in the four matches while Develle tallied an impressive 29 digs.
Senior Stephanie Slater leads the team with 66 kills, while sophomore Whitney Krantz (65), senior Leah Turner (58) and Vrhel (57) follow closely behind. Senior Amy Matula has dished a team-best 158 assists, while junior Mariah Brantley has recorded 97 digs.
Villanova enters Tuesday's match with a 3-3 record and has dropped three of its last four matches. The Wildcats went 1-2 at the University of Denver Classic over the weekend, picking up a 3-1 win over Air Force before dropping contests to UT Arlington and Denver. The Wildcats are led by freshman middle blocker Amanda Pedersen-Henry who tallied 12 kills and a .348 hitting percentage in Villanova's match against Denver. Pedersen-Henry was named to the Denver Classic All-Tournament team thanks to her impressive showing.
Villanova battled for a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-22) win over Lehigh in the last meeting between the two programs on Sept. 9, 2014 at Villanova. The Wildcats hold an all-time advantage of 26-6 over the Mountain Hawks.
Following Tuesday's night match, Lehigh will travel to Kingston, R.I. over the weekend to play in the Art Carmichael Invite hosted by Rhode Island. The Mountain Hawks will compete against Sacred Heart, Rhode Island and Canisius Friday and Saturday.
