BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a first place showing at the season-opening Lehigh Invitational, the Mountain Hawks men's cross country team will look to continue its success this Saturday, Sept. 19 in its annual dual meet against Lafayette. The 8K meet is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start in Easton, Pa.
"It's a meet we take seriously every year and we take a lot of pride in it," head coach Todd Etters said. "We want to run well and it's gearing us up for the rest of the season so it's great to have a meet with this much history and this much on the line on our schedule at this time."
Lehigh will be seeking its 17th consecutive victory over the Leopards. Last season, the Mountain Hawks secured eight of the top 10 finishes at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course to help lock down a 15-48 victory over Lafayette in the 8K event. Departed seniors Ryan Mahalsky and Nick Ward were the top two overall finishers, with John Tolbert being the highest-finishing returner with a third place finish.
Lafayette opened its season on Sept. 5 at the Monmouth XC Kick-Off, finishing second out of five teams. The Mountain Hawks won the Division I portion of the Lehigh Invitational on Sept. 4, topping La Salle 15-50. Lehigh sophomore Patrick Reilly won the event, completing the 6K course in 18:33.9. Overall, Lehigh took eight of the top 10 places, including 17 of the top 20 en route to obtaining the perfect score of 15.
"Since our last race we've done a couple of different workouts that simulate races and what we really should see in the Lafayette dual meet," Etters added. "Hopefully we're able to pack up and run well."
