
Mountain Hawks take seventh at Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Lehigh men's golf team shaved three more strokes off its second round score but the Mountain Hawks were unable to move up from seventh place as the Rutgers Invitational concluded Saturday on the Rutgers University Golf Course. Lehigh's final score of 882 (297-294-291) placed the Mountain Hawks seventh out of 14 teams.

Sophomore Billy Johns led the way for the Mountain Hawks, tying for 22nd place at six over par 219. Johns shot one over par 72 on Saturday to finish with rounds of 74, 73 and 72.

Freshmen Johnny Hsu and Eamon Marone tied for 31st place at 222. Hsu shot 76 on Saturday while Marone carded a 74.

Another freshman, Max Redetzke delivered the low round of the weekend for Lehigh, firing a one under par 70 to finish at 223 and tie for 34th place.

Lehigh's fifth scoring player was freshman Lee Hammerschmidt who finished in a tie for 38th at 225 after three consecutive rounds of 75.

Senior Dave Olexson competed as an individual and continued an impressive comeback from an opening round 83. Olexson shot 75 Friday afternoon and carded a 71 on Saturday to move up to a tie for 58th place at 229.

Towson went wire-to-wire to take the team title at 14 under par 838 (277-283-278). The Tigers defeated second place Rutgers by 20 strokes.

La Salle's PJ Acierno was the individual medalist at six under par 207 (71-65-71). Acierno beat Towson's Ryan Siegler and Fairleigh Dickinson's Nicolas Osorio by one stroke.

Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be the Tuxedo Autumn Invitational, hosted by Columbia, September 25-26 in Tuxedo Park, N.Y.
