Corner Store to host 2017 Country Run 5K in Lehigh Valley
Race series has raised $4.1 million for
Big Brothers Big Sisters and local children's charities

 
(LEHIGH VALLEY, PA) — CST Brands, a Fortune 500 convenience chain based in San Antonio, TX and parent company of Corner Store and CrossAmerica Partners, is hosting its third annual Corner Store Country Run in Lehigh Valley on Saturday, September 9 at Lehigh University's Rauch Field House starting at 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds from the 2017 race will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters, the world's largest donor and volunteer-supported mentoring network, as well as local children's charities.

The series has raised a net total of $4.1 million for Big Brothers Big Sisters in the U.S. and Canada, as well as children's charities in each of the series' race markets.
"Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Corner Store for the third year in a row for the Corner Store Country Run. This race contributes much-needed funding for our chapter to serve children facing adversity through mentoring programs that provide enduring, professionally supported, one-to-one relationships that change children's lives for the better," said Susan Bartels, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley. "In 2017, we will support close to 450 relationships between youth and volunteer mentors in Lehigh and Northampton counties."

This year, the Country Run will offer a chip-timed Competitive 5K for serious runners in addition to a Fun Run 5K, maintaining the fun, family-friendly atmosphere that racers have loved for three years. Additional revenues come from participant registrations, corporate sponsors and Corner Store customers who donate at the register in participating locations. 

The Corner Store Country Run 5K features a farm-themed course with hay bales, a tire obstacle, tractors, and giant inflatable cows, pigs and chickens. Participants dress the part in western wear, overalls, cowboy hats and farm animal costumes. After the run, folks are invited to stick around for a post-race country fair with food, live music, free sponsor swag and carnival games.

In addition, all race participants will receive a branded T-shirt and backpack to fill with sponsor swag and goodies at the Country Fair. For Competitive 5K runners, prizes will be awarded to the fastest finishers in several categories.
