BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team heads to Hamilton, N.Y. this weekend for the Patriot League Championship, hosted by Colgate on the Seven Oaks Golf Club. Players from the eight Patriot League institutions that sponsor men's golf will play 36 holes on Saturday with the final 18 holes set for Sunday.
Â
The eight teams are limited to six golfers with the low four scorers in each round counting towards the team total. The championship team earns a berth to the NCAA Regionals while the individual champion, if not part of the championship team would also earn a spot in regionals.
Â
Lehigh followed up its Patriot League title in 2013 with a third place finish last year at West Point, N.Y. Loyola is the defending Patriot League Champion. The Seven Oaks Golf Club will host the Patriot League Championship for the first time since 2010. The course covers 6915 yards and plays to a par of 72.
Â
The Mountain Hawks have not played a full field stroke play tournament since finishing second out of 14 teams at Lafayette's Invitational on April 5-6. The Navy Invitational featured one round of stroke play and two rounds of match play, while in its most recent action Lehigh defeated rival Lafayette 300-316 in stroke play Wednesday at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Â
Junior Harley Abrams will man the top spot for the Mountain Hawks. He is a two-time All-Patriot League selection, tying for fourth in 2013 and tying for eighth last year.
Â
Senior Carlos Kim is also a two-time all-league performer with a pair of second team honors. Kim led Lehigh at last year's championship, tying for sixth place.
Â
Zach Allinson is the other senior in Lehigh's Patriot League Championship lineup. Allinson will be playing in his third league championship and is coming off a low round of 73 in Lehigh's stroke play win over Lafayette.
Â
The remainder of Lehigh's lineup for the championship includes junior Dave Olexson, sophomore Brendan Worthy and freshman Billy Johns, who has enjoyed a strong spring highlighted by his win at the Wildcat Invitational where he became Lehigh's first medalist in a tournament featuring ten or more teams since 2004.
Â
The Patriot League Championship begins Saturday at 8 a.m. with the first round. The second round begins at 12:30 p.m. while Sunday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. Lehigh will be paired with Navy for Saturday's first and second rounds.
