
Nugent signs professional contract

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Former Lehigh men's soccer standout goalkeeper Ciaran Nugent has signed a professional contract with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL (United Soccer League).
The Harrisburg City Islanders are the official affiliate of the Philadelphia Union of MLS. The team is located in Harrisburg, Pa. Nugent joins a long list of former Mountain Hawks who have signed professional contracts, the most recent being Adam Gazda '10 who signed with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL.
Nugent wrapped up his career in the brown and white during the 2014 season. The Dedham, Mass. native was a three-year starting goalkeeper for the Mountain Hawks and two-time All-League selection. He was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, first team All-League and second team All-Mid-Atlantic during his sophomore campaign in 2011 after finishing the season ranked third in the nation in save percentage (.896) and shutout percentage (0.61). He saw action in 16 games during his junior campaign in 2012 before being sidelined by an injury in 2013. Nugent was named one of the final 30 candidates for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award at the beginning of the 2014 season. He posted three shutouts during the season and was named third team All-Patriot League.
