USBands Winter championships head toÂ
Lehigh University                                                                                                                                                                                          March 26, 2015
Bethlehem, PA - USBands Winter - a competitive circuit for indoor color guards and percussion ensembles - has announced that its 2015 Zildjian Winter Percussion Championships and the 2015 Field & Floor FX Color Guard Championships will be held at Stabler Arena on the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University on April 18-19. "We couldn't be more excited to be at Lehigh for this event," USBands Director Justin Heimbecker said. "It's incredible that we have this opportunity to host our championship event at a championship-quality venue. We think everyone involved will enjoy it."
After a successful one-day stint at Pine Belt Arena in Toms River, N.J. last April, a substantial increase in the number of participating color guards and percussion ensembles prompted the search for a facility to accommodate a two-day championship in 2015."The indoor activity is growing each year," Heimbecker said. "So as to not limit the number of ensembles and students participating, we need to expand to this new, two-day format. We considered several site in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and Lehigh University is an ideal fit with our size and schedule, as we seek to provide the best possible venue for the student performers."
This two-day championship event is a first for USBands' young indoor circuit, which is in the midst of its sixth season. Percussion ensembles will compete for top honors on Saturday, April 18, while indoor color guards will attempt to dance and spin their way to a title on Sunday, April 19.In addition, defending World Champion Cadets Winter Percussion and the inaugural Cadets Winter Guard - both programs of Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!) in Allentown - will perform on their respective designated dates. Sunday will also feature performances by Xcape Dance Company, another program offering of YEA!A preliminary schedule for this event will be available on March 23.
