
Mountain Hawks travel to Bucknell Wednesday for key league showdown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to rebound from a pair of tough losses last week when the Mountain Hawks head to Bucknell for an important Patriot League contest Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and free video will be available on the Patriot League Network. Lehigh and Bucknell are two of four teams that are currently tied for third place in the league standings with 9-7 records and two regular season games to play.

Lehigh erased a halftime deficit to come back and take a second-half lead over Lafayette Saturday afternoon, but couldn't hold on and fell 59-51 in the Mountain Hawks' most recent action. Freshman Quinci Mann led Lehigh with a career high-tying 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Sophomore Lexi Martins tallied her 17th double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Kerry Kinek followed with eight points and seven boards.

The Mountain Hawks wrapped up the game shooting 31.7 percent (20-for-63) from the field, 14.3 percent (2-for-14) from three-point range and 60 percent (9-for-15) from the free throw line. Lafayette shot 38.7 percent (24-for-62) from the field, 40 percent (4-for-10) from downtown and 63.6 percent (7-for-11) from the charity stripe. The Leopards held a slim 44-43 rebound advantage.

The Mountain Hawks lead the league with an average of 69.6 points per game, but have only scored an average of 47.5 points per game in Lehigh's last two games. Martins leads the team with 14.6 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, while Kinek (11.7) and senior Katie O'Reilly (11.4) also average double-digit points.

The Bison have won three of their last four games, including back-to-back road victories over Loyola and Boston University in last week's action. Four players scored in double figures and Bucknell held off a late Boston University rally in a 65-60 win Saturday at Case Gym.

Freshman Jacquie Klotz recorded her third double-double in five games with 19 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Bison improve to 17-10 overall and 9-7 in the league. Klotz earned this week's Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week awards. The 17 wins are the most in head coach Aaron Roussell's three seasons with the team and the most for the program since the 2006-07 season.

Klotz was joined in double digits by senior Audrey Dotson and sophomores Megan McGurk and Claire DeBoer, who all finished with 13 points.

Dotson leads the squad with 13.4 points per game, while Claire DeBoer has averages a team-best eight rebounds per game. Megan McGurk has dished a team-high 74 assists.

Lehigh looks to complete the season sweep against the Bison Wednesday after claiming a 76-61 win in the season's first meeting on Jan. 28 inside Stabler Arena.

The game was tied at 32 at halftime, but the Mountain Hawks outscored the Bison 44-29 in the second half to seal the victory. Lehigh started the second half on a 20-8 run thanks to a 6-for-6 showing from beyond the arc and then closed the game on a 12-4 streak to grab the win.

Martins tallied her 13th double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Kinek followed with 14 points and six boards. Mann tallied 11 points and a career-high six assists, while junior Elizabeth Sharlow contributed ten points and seven rebounds. The Bison were kept in the game by 14 second-half points from Dotson. Claire Maree O'Bryan led Bucknell with 17 points.
