Bragalone tabbed as ECAC Offensive Rookie of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh freshman running back Dominick Bragalone picked up another post season honor Friday as he was named ECAC Offensive Rookie of the Year. Bragalone was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year and a first team All-Patriot League selection last month after becoming the first Lehigh freshman to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.

Bragalone posted the 11th 1,000-yard rushing season in Lehigh football history, carrying 179 times for 1,008 yards and seven touchdowns. His final carry of the season was a 44-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of Lehigh's win 49-35 win over rival Lafayette, which put Bragalone over the 1,000 yard threshold. Bragalone's 1,008 yards rank tenth on Lehigh's single season rushing list.

The South Williamsport, Pa. product had six 100-yard rushing games in his freshman campaign, with a high of 169 in Lehigh's win over Georgetown on Halloween. Bragalone scored five touchdowns over his final three games, including three scores to go along with 164 rushing yards in a game at Colgate on November 14. In that game, Bragalone had a season-best 62-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

In addition to his 1,008 rushing yards, Bragalone caught 14 passes for 254 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown reception in an early season game at James Madison.

Last month Bragalone became Lehigh's first Patriot League Rookie of the Year since Mark McGowan in 1986. He is just the second Mountain Hawk to garner a major award from the ECAC, joining quarterback Chris Lum, who was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2011.

Bragalone is one of three ECAC major award winners from the Patriot League. Fordham running back Chase Edmonds was named ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, while Colgate's Dan Hunt was recognized as Coach of the Year. Duquesne linebacker Christian Kuntz was named ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, while Albany linebacker Julian Cox garnered Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.
