Ruhl named to CoSIDA Academic All-District football team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior tight end Chris Ruhl has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Football team, it was announced Thursday. Ruhl, one of Lehigh's team captains and starting tight end, was recognized for being one of the district's top performers in the classroom.

The Academic All-District teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) whose schools are in the region. District 2 consists of schools from Washington, D.C., Delware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better and be a starter or key reserve.

Ruhl has appeared in all eight games for the Mountain Hawks with seven starts at tight end. He has two receptions for nine yards on the season, with those receptions coming against Penn and Bucknell. Lehigh tight ends have accounted for just five of 191 receptions this season, but Ruhl has been a factor in the run game, where the Mountain Hawks average 172.6 yards per game.

The Huntingdon Valley, Pa. product carries a 3.70 cumulative grade point average as a mechanical engineering major. He is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has made Lehigh's Dean's List with a GPA of better than 3.6 in five of his first six semesters at Lehigh. Ruhl owns the top GPA among Lehigh starters.

Ruhl becomes the first Mountain Hawk to earn Academic All-District honors since Zach Barket and Ryan Spadola were both recognized in 2011 and 2012. Barket capped a fine athletic and academic career by earning Academic All-America honors in 2012. Ruhl is now eligible to be an Academic All-American by way of his earning Academic All-District recognition.
