Bragalone captures fourth Patriot League Rookie of the Week award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After rushing for 164 yards and a career-high three touchdowns Saturday at Colgate, Lehigh freshman running back Dominick Bragalone garnered his fourth Patriot League Rookie of the Week award of the season. Bragalone contributed three of Lehigh's six touchdowns as the Mountain Hawks were outscored by Colgate 49-42 as the Raiders claimed the Patriot League Championship and automatic FCS playoff berth.
Bragalone carried a career-best 25 times on a cold, gray Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y. His 164 yards were five short of his career-high set against Georgetown on October 31. In the first half, Bragalone scored on a one-yard run that tied the game at 14 and later broke off a career-best 62 yard touchdown run to tie the game at 21-21. Bragalone's third touchdown came from one yard out and capped a five-play, 75-yard drive as Lehigh tied the game at 42-42 with 5:33 to play.
In addition to averaging 6.6 yards per carry, Bragalone caught one pass for 18 yards to convert a 3rd-and-7 and set the Mountain Hawks up with a 1st-and-goal situation early in the third quarter.
For the season, the South Williamsport, Pa., native has carried 165 times for 920 yards and six touchdowns. He is the Patriot League's second leading rusher. Bragalone needs 80 rushing yards to post the 11th 1,000 yard rushing season in Lehigh history and what would be the first 1,000 yard rushing season by a Lehigh freshman.
In addition to Bragalone's honor, junior quarterback Nick Shafnisky received honorable mention recognition from the league. In his first start since October 24, Shafnisky generated 332 yards of total offense and threw two touchdown passes while rushing for a third score. He also did not turn the ball over.
Lehigh (5-5, 3-2 Patriot League) will close out the regular season on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks host Lafayette in the 151st meeting of college football's most-played rivalry. Kickoff is set for 12:30 from Goodman Stadium.
