Mountain Hawks open second half of league play Saturday at Boston University

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team kicks off the second half of Patriot League play Saturday at 2 p.m. at Boston University. The Mountain Hawks ride a two-game win streak into Saturday's contest and will be looking to capitilize on the momentum gained from a 6-3 showing in the first half of Patriot League play.
 
Lehigh has already surpassed its win total from last season (13), as the Mountain Hawks carry a 14-5 record into Boston. Lehigh is coming off a big 76-61 victory over Bucknell Wednesday night inside Stabler Arena. After being tied at 32 at halftime, the Mountain Hawks outscored Bucknell 44-29 in the second half to roll to a 76-61 win over the Bison. Lehigh started the second half on a 20-8 run thanks to a 6-for-6 showing from beyond the arc and then closed the game on a 12-4 streak to pick up the victory.
 
Sophomore Lexi Martins tallied her 13th double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Martins shot 9-for-14 from the field, 3-for-5 from three-point range and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. Junior Kerry Kinek followed with 14 points and six boards. Freshman Quinci Mann tallied 11 points and a career-high six assists, while junior Elizabeth Sharlow contributed ten points and seven rebounds.
 
Bucknell entered Wednesday's game with the best rebounding margin in the Patriot League (+9.5), but the Mountain Hawks were able to outrebound the Bison 42-29. Lehigh finished the game with a season-high 10 three-pointers and season-best 22 assists. The Mountain Hawks shot 45.2 percent (28-for-62) from the field and 43.5 percent (10-for-23) from three-point range, including a 6-for-10 (60 percent) mark from downtown during the second half. The Mountain Hawks held the Bison to a 41.7 percent (25-for-60) clip from the field.
 
Boston University wrapped up the first half of Patriot League play with a 1-8 record and enters Saturday's game in last place in the Patriot League. The Terriers' lone Patriot League win came in the form of a 58-53 decision over Colgate on Jan .14.
 
The Terriers finished the first half of league play with a 65-40 home loss to Army Thursday night. BU kept pace in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 35-15 halftime deficit. Mollie McKendrick led the team with 10 points, all of which were scored in the second half. Meghan Green also had a productive end of the game, scoring six of her eight points in the final period.
 
Overall, BU shot 33 percent from the floor and 50 percent from long range. The Terriers improved in the second stanza, going from 21 percent in the first half to 44 percent in the second. Army's Kelsey Minato led the game with 30 points. She went 8-of-10 from beyond the arc and 10-of-14 overall. The Terriers did a better job defending the junior in the second half, allowing her to score just three field goals.
 
All four of the Terriers wins this season have come at home in Case Gym.
 
The Terriers won the first four meetings between Lehigh and Boston University, but the Mountain Hawks have come back to claim the last two, including an 85-64 decision earlier this season on Jan. 3 inside Stabler Arena.
 
Lehigh used a strong offensive effort coupled with an impressive defensive half to claim the season's first meeting. The Mountain Hawks controlled a 45-41 lead at halftime, but held the Terriers to just 23 second-half points. Martins led the way, tallying her ninth double-double of the season with a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Katie O'Reilly chipped in 11 points and Mann followed with 10 points. Four Terriers scored in double figures, led by Green with 14 points.
 
Lehigh shot 45.5 percent (30-for-66) from the field and 41.2 percent (7-for-17) from three-point range in addition to a 78.3 percent (18-for-23) clip from the charity stripe. The Terriers finished the game shooting 39.7 percent (23-for-58) from the field, despite a 55.6 percent effort in the first half. BU made just five field goals in the second half, while 13 of its second-term points came from the charity stripe. Lehigh controlled a slim 39-37 rebound advantage.
