
Kim leads way for shorthanded Lehigh contingent at Navy Spring Invite

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Junior Carlos Kim fired a final round two under par 69 to lead the Lehigh men's golf team on the final day of the Navy Spring Invitational Saturday at the Naval Academy Golf Club. Kim's 69 lifted him into a tie for fourth place in the two-day, 36-hole tournament at 75-69-144.
The Mountain Hawks entered the tournament shorthanded with just four scoring players and on Saturday, sophomore Johnny Heydt withdrew, leaving Lehigh with just three players. As such Lehigh did not finish in the team race after carding a 310 on Friday.
In addition to Kim, junior Zach Allinson and sophomore Harley Abrams competed as individuals in the final round. Abrams tied for 35th overall at 152 after following a 77 on Friday with a 75 on Saturday. Allinson led Lehigh with a 73 on Friday but shot 80 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 38th at 153.
Towson claimed the team title at 296-288-584, besting the hosts from Navy by eight strokes. Saint Francis (Pa.) finished 12 strokes behind the Tigers in third place.
Individually, Towson's Joe Gunerman repeated as individual champion at 70-69-139 to defeat Michael Shine of Siena and TJ McNulty of Saint Joseph's by two strokes.
The Mountain Hawks will battle Lafayette in stroke play Tuesday at Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown before heading to West Point, N.Y. for next weekend's Patriot League Championship.
