Parris named to Academic All-Patriot League team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior wide receiver Josh Parris represents the Mountain Hawks on the Academic All-Patriot League football team announced by the league Wednesday. Parris, a team captain and Lehigh's leader in receptions, is one of 14 Patriot League football student-athletes recognized for their efforts in the classroom in addition to on-field performance.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. The football Academic All-Patriot League Team has 14 student-athletes to equal one-half the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team. The Academic All-League teams are voted on by the league's sports information directors.
Parris topped the Mountain Hawks with 55 receptions, and gained 635 yards while scoring three touchdowns. He also returned 17 punts for 107 yards as Lehigh's primary punt returner. For his career, Parris caught 111 passes for 1374 yards and five scores.
In the classroom, the Coopersburg, Pa. native owns a 3.23 cumulative grade point average as a biology major. Earlier this year, Parris was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell trophy, given to the top football scholar-athlete in the nation. Parris is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and made Lehigh's Dean's List last fall.
Off the field, Parris is a member of the Lehigh chapter of Student Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC) and received the Catalyst for Social Change award at the April 2014 Lehigh University Awards Convocation. Parris is also involved on campus in Lehigh Athletics' Leadership Legacies program and InterVarsity.
Fordham defensive end Brett Biestek was voted Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for football.
