BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior outside linebacker Matt Laub and sophomore kicker Ryan Pandy both enjoyed career-best days in Lehigh's 30-27 win over Colgate on Saturday. On Monday, both players garnered Patriot League weekly awards for their efforts, with Laub named Defensive Player of the Week and Pandy named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Â
Laub was all over the field defensively for the Mountain Hawks, who limited Colgate to just 137 yards through three quarters and 319 for the game. He finished with a career-high nine tackles, all solo, and added two sacks, three tackles-for-loss, and his first career interception. Laub's tackle-for-loss on Colgate's first drive helped push the Raiders out of field goal range, while his first sack led to a Colgate first-quarter punt. Late in the first half, the Coplay, Pa., product dropped into coverage and intercepted Colgate's Bret Mooney. The interception led to a 34-yard Pandy field goal, which gave Lehigh a 20-7 halftime advantage.
Â
For the season, Laub has 32 tackles. He leads the Mountain Hawks with 4.5 sacks and ten tackles-for-loss.
Â
Pandy's career day included three field goals and 12 points, highlighted by a career-long 42-yard field goal that capped the Mountain Hawks' opening drive. Pandy was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, connecting on a 22-yarder on Lehigh's first drive of the second half, while also converting all three of his extra point opportunities.
Â
The Clearwater, Fla. native is now 9-for-14 on field goals this year, including 7-for-8 over Lehigh's last three games. He is also perfect on 33 extra point attempts this season.
Â
Also on Monday sophomore quarterback Nick Shafnisky and freshman wide receiver Troy Pelletier garnered honorable mention laurels from the league. Shafnisky completed 19-of-22 passes and accounted for 278 yards of total offense in Saturday's win, while Pelletier had another strong day, hauling in seven passes for 89 yards and his seventh touchdown of the season.
