BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After adopting local youngster Alison Sehee to the team last season, the Lehigh field hockey team has continued its connection with Alison this season through Team Impact. The Mountain Hawks continues to share memories with Alison, who attends several practices while the Lehigh players recently supported Sehee at her volleyball game through Special Olympics.
Â
"Alison is an amazing girl; she has a huge impact on our team and always has a smile on her face," said Lehigh head coach Stacey Eversley. "She is one of my favorite people to be around. She is always and forever a family member of LUFH."
Â
"Over the last two years our team has shared some great memories with Alison," said senior captain Steph Fratoni. "Last spring, we went to see the Muppets movie together. Stories and memories from that day are brought up all the time in conversation. Our team gets so excited whenever we get a chance to spend time with Alison, even if it's just for a few moments at practice."
Â
The Lehigh players get as much (if not more) out of the relationship than Alison. The relationship between the players and Alison has continued to grow.
"Alison is always so happy and full of funny thoughts and stories," said Fratoni. "Earlier this week, we had the chance to attend Alison's volleyball practice and actually got to play with her team. We had a blast. Not many girls on our team are familiar with the rules of volleyball, but Alison and her teammates were so helpful, patient and encouraging. We are also hoping to have Alison join us for our Halloween practice where we dress in costumes and have a pumpkin carving competition."
Â
The Mountain Hawks are learning life lessons beyond work in the classroom and on the field.
Â
"Continuing to build our relationship with Alison enhances our student-athlete experience," said Fratoni. "It makes us step outside our daily routine and see life from a different perspective. We have learned a great deal from Alison that we could have never learned in the classroom. She has shown us how to have strength and courage when faced with adversity."
Â
Lehigh will wrap up its season this weekend with a pair of home games, against Bucknell on Saturday (2 p.m.) and La Salle on Sunday (1 p.m.). Sunday is Senior Day as Fratoni and her senior classmates Natalie Tacka and Abby Sprinkel will be recognized prior to gametime.
