Lehigh falls to Rider 2-1

It did not take alot of scoring to make last nights game the most exciting game of this season so far. The Mountain Hawks played one of their toughest opponets yet in Rider University. Rider was obviously looking to set the tone early as winger Patrick Grilli sent a Lehigh player into the boards with a crushing check just seconds into the game. This would set the tone for the rest of the night. Both teams played a very aggressive and physical game, trading hits throughout the evening. It was Lehigh lighting the lamp first off a Henry Brooks shot assisted by Spencer Lehrer and Even Goldstein at 1:25 of the 1st period. Rider was able to answer quickly, about a minute later, at the 2:31 mark of the 1st when Patrick Grilli snuck one past Lehigh goalie Patrick Walgren. This would end the scoring until 16:21 of the 2nd period when while short handed, Rider's John Martino was able to sneak by the Mountain Hawk's defense and put one past Walgren. This would be all the scoring that was needed as both teams played strong, tight defense for the remainder of the game. The final buzzer sounded and it was Rider coming out with the victory 2-1 over Lehigh. Lehigh goalie Patrick Walgren was solid in net stopping Rider's 23 of 25 shots. The Lehigh locker room was buzzing with chatter after the game and the attitude was definitely a positive one. Sophomore Joe Ramondelli put it best when saying "we just did not have any puck luck tonight". Lehigh will not have much time for rest as they will be preparing for RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) and Navy, who visit Bethlehem next Friday and Saturday.
