BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In October, the Lehigh men's golf team fell to rival Lafayette in the President's Cup in Gladstone, N.J. The Mountain Hawks exacted some revenge on Tuesday defeating the Leopards in stroke play on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Lehigh's top four bested Lafayette's by four strokes on the course in which the Mountain Hawks will host the Patriot League Championship in two weeks.
The format for Tuesday's match was stroke play, with Lehigh and Lafayette playing seven players with the top four counting as the team score.
All seven Mountain Hawks broke 80 on Tuesday as Lehigh shot 306 compared to 310 for Lafayette. Sophomore Carlos Kim shot 75 to lead all players, while junior Alex DiClemente was one shot behind at 76.
Senior Sean Keller shot 77, matching the low round for Lafayette's two low scorers, Mike Zausmer and Patrick Luther.
Five players carded rounds of 78 on the day with junior Andrew Arnold and freshman Johnny Heydt shooting 78 for Lehigh and Phil Rosengarden, Dave Kafafian and Doug Fernandez shooting the score for the Leopards.
Lehigh's highest rounds were 79s shot by freshman Harley Abrams and sophomore Zach Allinson. Lafayette's Travis Ricca came in at 81 while Pete Gross shot 84.
The Mountain Hawks will compete at the Navy Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday in Annapolis, Md. The tournament will mark the final tune-up before Lehigh hosts the Patriot League Championship April 27-28 on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
