COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite a close first half, the Lehigh women's basketball team dropped a 93-63 decision to Ohio State Wednesday night at Value City Arena. Three Mountain Hawks scored in double-figures, but the Buckeyes' hot shooting proved to be too much for Lehigh (5-2) which lost its second game of the season.

"I thought we competed hard and played well in the first half," said head coach Sue Troyan. "The second half got away from us early and it was tough to recover. A lot of good things can come from playing a good team like Ohio State and it's a good measure of what work we have to do."

Junior Sarah Williams finished the game with a team-leading 14 points, followed by sophomore Kerry Kinek with 12 and junior Katie O'Reilly with 11. Kinek grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds.

Ohio State's Martina Ellerbe led all players with 21 points, while Ameryst Alston chipped in 16 to help the Buckeyes (6-2) to the win.

Lehigh finished the game with a 27.9 percent (17-for-61) field goal percentage and shot 34.8 percent (8-for-23) from the three-point line. The Mountain Hawks shot 67.7 percent (21-for-31) from the charity stripe. Ohio State was hot from the field, finishing the game at 50 percent (33-for-66).

Ohio State jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, but Lehigh eventually battled back to knot the score at nine behind four points from O'Reilly and a timely Williams three-pointer. The Buckeyes answered with nine unanswered points to take an 18-9 lead with 13:03 to play in the opening half.  Lehigh responded with a 15-2 run thanks to hot three-point shooting from freshman Lexi Martins and sophomore Liz Jordan to take a 24-20 lead with 7:36 on the clock.

The Buckeyes responded with a string of 11 unanswered points to reclaim the advantage, 31-24, and remained in control for the remainder of the half. A layup from Ohio State's Cait Craft sent the teams into the intermission with the Buckeyes leading 37-28.

The Buckeyes got off to a quick start in the second half, promptly going on an 11-1 run to force a Lehigh timeout with the score at 48-29. Ohio State continued to capitalize on its chances, eventually taking a 68-37 lead with 11 minutes to play. Four points from Kinek, a three-pointer from Jordan and two made free throws from senior Lindsay Hoskins eventually put the Mountain Hawks down 76-46 with 8:26 left on the clock.

Ohio State remained in control for the remainder of the half, despite strong Mountain Hawk free throw shooting. Lehigh closed out the game on a 12 - 4 run, but it wasn't enough as the Buckeyes claimed their sixth win of the season.

The Mountain Hawks will now have a break in action until they return to Stabler Arena to face Saint Peter's December 9 at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling 610-7LU-GAME or by visiting LehighTickets.com.
