Mountain Hawks drop tight 3-2 final at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Lehigh and Colgate were even heading into the final 10 minutes, but the Raiders scored two goals in a 1:04 span which proved to be the difference as the Mountain Hawks fell 3-2 on Saturday. Sophomore Taylor Mygatt and freshman Marissa Glatt scored Lehigh's goals while freshman Julia Ward posted eight saves in goal.
"It was a competitive game," said Lehigh head coach Stacey Blue. "I thought we did well scoring two goals off corners, but we definitely need to score early. Taylor (Mygatt) and Marissa (Glatt) both had great goals."
The Raiders held a 15-4 first-half shot advantage, scoring the only goal at 23:36 to make it 1-0 at the half.
Mygatt evened the score early in the second half off a penalty corner, deflecting a shot from senior Caitlyn Mitchell over Colgate goalie Amanda DiDomizio's left shoulder to make it 1-1.
The teams played even through the middle of the second half until Colgate was awarded a penalty stroke, which Giuliana Kafaf converted at 63:44. The Raiders' Halle Biggar added an insurance goal at 64:48 behind an unassisted breakaway.
That goal proved large as Glatt knocked home her own rebound following a penalty corner to pull within 3-2 at 66:31. However, Lehigh couldn't get any more shots off the rest of the way.
Final shots were 28-10 in favor of Colgate while the Raiders held a 17-6 edge in penalty corners. Ward made eight saves in 64:59 while junior Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson added two stops and freshman Kassidy Green and sophomore Kat Kneizys added defensive saves.
Lehigh returns to action in 24 hours when it heads to Cornell to face the Big Red. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
