Abrams, Mountain Hawks finish second at Colgate Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Behind a second place finish by freshman Harley Abrams, the Lehigh men's golf team finished second at the Colgate Invitational, which wrapped-up Sunday at the Seven Oaks Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks opened with a 305 on Saturday and followed up with a 303 on Sunday to finish at 32 over par 608, ten strokes behind team champions Youngstown State.
The Colgate Invitational was initially supposed to be a 54 hole event, but inclement weather limited play to just 18 holes on Saturday with the final 18 contested Sunday.
Abrams impressed Sunday in his first collegiate event, following up an opening round 80 on Saturday with a two under par 70 to finish in a three-way tie for second at six over par 150.
Junior Alex DiClemente was Lehigh's top performer on Saturday, shooting 74, and finished with a 77 to tie for fifth at 151.
Senior Sean Keller and sophomore Carlos Kim were part of a three-way tie for tenth at 153. Keller shot 75 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday while Kim, who competed as an individual, shot 76 and 77 in his two rounds. Junior Andrew Arnold shot 154 (76-78) to tie for 13th place. Sophomore Zach Allinson was Lehigh's fifth scoring player and he tied for 29th after shooting 159 (80-79).
Lehigh's other individual player, freshman Jonathan Heydt, tied for 25th after shooting 157 (80-77).
Youngstown State's Bill Gaffney captured medalist honors, shooting a one under par 143 (71-72) to win by seven strokes over a trio of players, including Abrams. The Penguins shot 598 as a team (301-297) over the two-day event, to beat the Mountain Hawks by ten strokes. Lehigh finished ten strokes ahead of third place finisher and Patriot League foe Bucknell.
Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be the Bucknell Invitational Friday and Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa.
