Steelhawks Back in the Win Column

The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (5-7) were able to derail the Reading Express (2-10) for the third time in four opportunities this past Saturday, ending a four game losing streak and keeping the team's playoff hopes alive.   With two games to go, the Steelhawks will still need some help and a strong finish to claim the fourth and final spot in the United Conference.
The Steelhawks started strong right from the beginning as Jesse Cooper took the opening kickoff 55 yards to the house in front of the home crowd inside Stabler Arena.  It was the Steelhawks Special Teams and Defense that would carry them on the night as Kicker Paul Stoltz connected on four field goals and three extra points for a total of 15 points, and the defense recorded five interceptions, including Cooper returning one for a score.
Not to be outshines on the night, Steelhawks IRON MAN and Lehigh University graduate Matt Cohen was a force both defensively and offensively.  Lehigh Valley's starting middle linebacker was also asked to play running back on offense due to an injury last week to Ryan Leafey.  Cohen was up to the challenge by recording 8 tackles and a sack on defense while also rushing for 48 yards on 6 carries including his first IFL touchdown on a third quarter carry.  At the end of the game, the scoreboard read 39-24 in favor of the Steelhawks.
The team now sets its sights on their final home game of the 2012 season against the Green Bay Blizzard on June 2nd.  A few weeks ago the Blizzard handed the Steelhawks a 74-61 defeat in Wisconsin.  The game is being deemed FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT with many giveaways to fans who attend throughout the evening.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online at www.lehightickets.com or by visiting the Stabler Arena Box Office at 124 Goodman in Bethlehem.
