Mountain Hawks close out 2011 season at the NCAA East Preliminaries

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Lehigh track and field team brought its 2011 spring season to a close on Friday night as Evans Kosgei and Steve Tutunjian were the final competitors for the Mountain Hawks. Kosgei was Lehigh's top finisher as he finished 30th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
“I am very proud of the fact that Lehigh had five representatives at the NCAA preliminary rounds,” said Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch. “This is an excellent achievement for our kids and our program.”
Kosgei, who was most recently named the Patriot League Track and Field Scholar-Athlete winner, clocked in at 9:03 in the steeplechase at NCAA Regionals on Friday night. Kosgei was a Patriot League Champion this year in the 10,000 meter run and a runner-up in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Kosgei's time in the 10,000 meter run at the Patriot League Championships was not only a school record, but it was a Patriot League Championship record as well.
Tutunjian finished a stellar season on Friday as he finished a final distance of 14.09 meters in the triple jump. Tutunjian was a Patriot League Champion in the triple jump as he posted a mark of 7.32 meters, which was a personal best for him. For his efforts at the Patriot League Championships, he was named the Male Field Athlete of the Meet.
Emily Settle represented Lehigh in the hammer throw and earned a distance of 51.88 meters. Settle was a runner-up this year in the Patriot League Championships in the hammer throw. Lehigh's other finishers were Alex Doersam in the long jump, where she hit a distance of 5.53 meters in the preliminaries. Additionally, Niall Buckley ran the 800 meter dash in 1:59.67.
