BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After clinching its second straight outright Patriot League championship last week, No. 6/6 Lehigh closes out the regular season against Lafayette in the 147th meeting of college football's most-played rivalry. The Mountain Hawks have won 13 straight games against Patriot League opponents and can clinch their second straight undefeated league season with a win Saturday at Goodman Stadium.
Junior cornerback Bryan Andrews was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after picking off two passes in Lehigh's title-clinching win over Georgetown. Andrews' first interception set up a field goal late in the first half, while the Georgia native returned his second pick 26 yards for his first career touchdown, which gave the Mountain Hawks a 27-12 lead. Andrews is tied for the team lead with four interceptions and leads Lehigh with seven pass breakups.
The Mountain Hawks' win over Georgetown secured Lehigh's ninth FCS (formerly I-AA) playoff berth and second in as many years. Lehigh's win on Saturday marked the fifth time the Mountain Hawks clinched an NCAA playoff berth the week prior to facing arch rival Lafayette. Lehigh owns a 4-0 record against the Leopards in games following the clinching of an FCS playoff berth.
Lehigh and Lafayette meet for the 147th time Saturday afternoon with the Leopards holding a 76-65 lead. There have also been five ties in the series with the last occurring in 1964. Lehigh has won the last three meetings against Lafayette, while the Leopards won the previous four. The Mountain Hawks have won 11 of the last 16 meetings in the series. Saturday's contest is the 76th all-time in Bethlehem and the 12th inside Goodman Stadium. The Brown and White have won eight of the first 11 games played at Goodman.
