Lehigh finishes 11th at Regionals, Kosgei places 13th

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Lehigh men's cross country team placed 17th at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Qualifiers with 358 points behind a 13th-place finish from senior Evans Kosgei who finished the 10,000-meter race in 30:52.3. Kosgei will now wait for Sunday's announcement to find out if he received an NCAA at-large bid as he will be looking for his second straight NCAA appearance.
Kosgei also finished 13th in last year's race as he was the first ever Lehigh men's qualifier in the new format as well as Lehigh's first runner to compete at NCAA's since Jen Schappert in 2005. On Tuesday, Kosgei was named the Patriot League's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Mountain Hawks improved upon its 15th place from last year. After Kosgei, sophomore Jimmy Miller was the next Lehigh runner to cross the finish line, placing 57th with a time of 32:02.1 Senior Evan Flach placed 90th (32:55.9) followed by freshman Simon Voorhees (107th, 33:12.6), sophomore Sam Bernitt (118th, 33:24.9), freshman Casey Gilboy (146th, 34:18.7) and junior Lyle O'Brian (154th, 34:41.9).
Georgetown won the race 47 points with four runners inside the top eight, edging out Villanova's 63 points while Princeton came in third with 90 points. Princeton senior Donn Cabral won the race with a time of 30:30.3.
The top two teams and the top four individual runners qualify for the NCAA Championships while teams and individuals (who finish in the Top 25) are eligible for an at-large to the race which will be held in Terre Haute, Ind. and will be contested Monday, November 21st.
At the NCAA Championships last year, Kosgei placed 112th out of 246 runners and was seconds away from cracking the top 100.
