PHILADELPHIA – Senior Glynn Fitzer scored two goals and assisted on a third as the Lehigh women's soccer team erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with four second half tallies to defeat Saint Joseph's 4-1 in the final game of the Penn Invitational at Rhodes Field. Senior Liz Carlos and freshman Murphee Greeley also scored goals for the Mountain Hawks, who finished second in the four-team tournament, improving to 2-1-1 with the victory.

“We weren't aggressive in the first half but the second half was a whole different story,” explained Lehigh head coach Eric Lambinus. “Saint Joseph's was a physical team and we needed to be more physical than them.”

Saint Joseph's went ahead in the 26th minute when Jen Pfeiffer scored on a feed from Mo Hawkins. Lehigh out-shot the Hawks 9-5 in the first half but went into halftime down 1-0.

Lehigh's fortunes changed in the second half as Liz Carlos was tripped up in the Saint Joseph's 18-yard box. Carlos then stepped up and converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute to tie the game at one. The goal was the fourth of the season for Carlos, who moved into fourth place on Lehigh's career goal scoring list with 15.

Six minutes later the Mountain Hawks went in front as Fitzer headed junior Genna Pepe's free kick past Christine Neal and inside the post for her second goal of the season, which put Lehigh up 2-1. Three minutes after that, Fitzer struck again, taking a pass from freshman Paige Dyrek and scoring her second of the game to give Lehigh a two goal lead in the 57th minute.

Fitzer and Greeley teamed up to extend Lehigh's lead in the 65th minute as the freshman took a through ball from the senior tri-captain and fired a shot past Neal for her first career goal.
“The game changed on the penalty but it was a good call,” said Lambinus. “We continued to go at them. We thought we good have success dribbling at their defenders and take advantage of our speed against theirs. Because of that we were able to create some quality chances.”

Lehigh finished the day with a 20-8 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the pitch on Friday when they return home to face Marist. Game time set for 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
