BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman Murphee Greeley scored in the third minute of regulation while senior Lena Cannon did the same in the third minute of overtime to give the Lehigh women's soccer team a 2-1 win over Marist on Friday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

"I thought Marist played unbelievably," said head coach Eric Lambinus. "They battled the whole game. Their goalie was unbelievable. Fortunately, we were able to pull it out."

The Mountain Hawks put the pressure on early, peppering Red Fox goalkeeper Jamie Balzarini with three shots on goal in the first three minutes. After a strong save on senior Glynn Fitzer, Greeley fired a point-blank shot less than 30 seconds later. Balzarini made the initial save, but the ball caromed behind her where Greeley cleaned up the rebound to make it 1-0 at 2:30.

Lehigh continued to control possession until the end of the half when Marist fired their first shot on goal at 43:08. Mountain Hawk goalkeeper Lauren Mains sprawled to her left to make an incredible save on a Rycke Guiney shot, preserving the 1-0 lead. The Red Foxes did tie the score in the final minute, however, when Jessica Arabia sent a ball towards goal from 30 yards out. It drifted over Main's head and under the crossbar to make it 1-1 heading into halftime.

A physical second half saw 18 total fouls compared to only six whistled in the first 45 minutes. Both squads had a number of golden opportunities to score the game-winner, but the teams headed to overtime tied at one.

Senior Liz Carlos had one of Lehigh's best chances in the second half as her point-blank shot in the 65th minute was stopped by Balzarini. Late in the game, a Marist forward was sprung in against Mains. After making a move around the Lehigh goalkeeper, junior Leah Kulp came in to defend the play and keep the score at 1-1.
It didn't take long for Lehigh to score in the extra session as a Cannon shot from just outside the circle was deflected over Balzarini's head and trickled into the goal to the delight of the Lehigh faithful.

Final shots were 16-9 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks had four corner kicks to Marist's two. Balzarini finished with nine saves and Mains had two.

"Our effort has been really good throughout the entire season," said Eric Lambinus. "We just slip into some lulls and need to find a way to get through them."

The Mountain Hawks return to action next Friday when they host La Salle at 7 p.m.
