Travis Spencer has been appointed Director of Business Development for Stabler Arena and several other Lehigh University sports and event venues predominantly on Goodman Campus including Rauch Fieldhouse, Goodman Stadium, and the Mulvihilll Golf Learning Center.
Travis was promoted from his position of Manager of Corporate Partnerships for Lehigh Athletics where he served since 2005. He holds a BA in Business Management from the University of Scranton and a MA in Sports Management from Old Dominion University. Before joining Lehigh, he served as an account executive with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons in Scranton, PA.
Mark Ironside, Executive Director of University Business Services, says Spencer was the perfect candidate for the newly created Business Development position. “He's an enthusiastic professional who grew up in Lehigh Valley, and he enjoys people and events, two keys to our past successes.”
Spencer has big plans for his newly created position, and admits he has big shoes to fill. Richard Fritz, who retired this past winter, had been director the Arena since its dedication in 1979. Always up for a challenge, Spencer says “Stabler Arena has offered a myriad of entertainment options to the Valley for over 30 years and I intend to continue the legacy.”
Spencer, who joined Stabler just in time for Curious George LIVE and the Greater Lehigh Valley Auto Show, says the new position is “both rewarding and challenging.”
Spencer entered the new position in February of this year after an extensive search process. “I'm extremely grateful that I was chosen,” he says. “Stabler Arena is an asset to the Lehigh Valley. Having been born and raised here, I am a believer that Goodman Campus will continue to be a great destination for people to see an event on any given day.”
Stabler Arena, which alone draws about 180,000 annually, will continue to fulfill its original mission of being a collegiate multi-purpose, community arena. Spencer says, “We've hosted concerts, trade shows, and family shows for 30 years. We're home to the Patriot League champion Mountain Hawks basketball programs, and we will continue to work hard to entertain and support the Valley.”
