Lehigh posts highest Pres. Cup finish since 2006

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League released the final 2009-10 Presidents’ Cup Standings on Monday and Lehigh finished with 103 total points, which places the Mountain Hawks in third place overall, which is their highest finish since the 2005-06 academic year. The men (52.5 points) finished second overall, while the women (50.5 points) tied for third place. Bucknell once again won the Presidents’ Cup with 123.75 points, while Navy was the runner-up with 108.5 points. The Mountain Hawks placed third and were followed by Army, Colgate, Lafayette, Holy Cross and American.
On the men’s side, Bucknell totaled 59.5 points throughout the academic year to claim first place. The Mountain Hawks checked in at number-two with 52.5 points, which was one point ahead of Navy. The Midshipmen are followed by Army, Lafayette, Colgate, Holy Cross and American. During the spring, the Lehigh baseball team qualified for the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2006 and the tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the league tourney for the first time in a decade.
In the women’s standings, Bucknell registered 64.25 points to finish on top and was followed by Navy, with 57 points. Lehigh checked in at number-three as the Mountain Hawks and Colgate earned 50.5 points each, while Army, Holy Cross, American and Lafayette round out the standings. The Lehigh women’s lacrosse team captured its first Patriot League regular season championship since 1994 during the spring and advanced to the league championship game for the first time in school annals, while the softball team once again qualified for the league tournament.
Presidents’ Cup points are based on a team’s performance in the regular season and postseason. Lehigh has yet to capture the Presidents’ Cup, but the Mountain Hawks have finished second twice.
