Five student-athletes honored by LVAIAW

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Five Lehigh student-athletes picked up awards on Tuesday afternoon at the annual Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (LVAIAW) awards luncheon, held at Starters Riverport. Seniors Hailey Coonrad, Alex Ross and Allison Rolish along with juniors Erica Prosser and Lauren Dykstra were honored for their accomplishments in their respective sports, as Ross earned the Outstanding Athlete Award for Lehigh University, Coonrad was named the Lehigh Valley’s Outstanding Soccer Athlete, Prosser received the Lehigh Valley’s Outstanding Women’s Basketball Athlete award, Rolish was honored with the Lehigh Valley’s Outstanding Swimmer award and Dykstra was recognized as the Lehigh Valley’s Outstanding Lacrosse student-athlete.
Coonrad is a multi-year All-Patriot League selection, including First-Team accolades in 2009. A three-year team captain Coonrad anchored Lehigh’s defensive unit from her center back position. She often marked opponents top scoring threats and helped the Mountain Hawks hold nine opponents scoreless this past season. Coonrad delivered one point on the offensive end with an assist in the Brown and White’s 4-1 win over regular season champion Colgate.
Alex Ross is a three time All-Patriot League selection and the all-time Patriot League and Lehigh leader in made three-point field goals with 286. As a freshman Ross started 28 games and tied for the team lead in three-point shooting percentage. For her efforts she earned a spot on the Patriot League All-Rookie Team. During her sophomore season Ross appeared in all 31 games and established a new single season record for made three-pointers with 78 as she earned Second Team All-League recognition. As a junior Alex broke her own school record for made threes as she sank 93, and she also set the single-game three-point record when she drilled nine in a win over Binghamton. Ross was named the Patriot League Tournament MVP that season after sinking six three-pointers en route to netting 20 points in the league title game vs. rival Lafayette. As a senior Ross captured her second straight league tournament MVP award after averaging 12 points during the tourney in Lehigh’s run to its second consecutive league crown.
Rolish led the way for Lehigh’s swimming and diving team as it set 11 new school records at the Patriot League championship in February. Rolish entered four events and established new school marks in all four. The Cherry Hill, N.J. native set a school record in the 500 yard freestyle, as well as the 400 individual medley, the 1650 freestyle and the 800 free relay. With 41 points, Rolish was the highest scoring Lehigh swimmer at the championships. She earned her second All-League honor in 2010, after being named All-League in 2007.
Prosser was named to the All-Patriot League First-Team for the second consecutive year as she guided the Mountain Hawks to a school record 29 victories and their second straight league title. The junior captain finished the season with averages of 13.7 points, 4.2 assists and 2.6 steals, and ranked third in the league in scoring, while pacing the P.L. in assists and steals. Lehigh has posted a 47-7 record over the last two seasons when Prosser has hit for double figures in points.
Dykstra became the first student-athlete in Patriot League women’s lacrosse history to be named the Rookie of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year when she earned the defensive award last week. A three time First-Team All-League selection Dykstra scored 54 goals and totaled 62 points in 2010 as she helped lead the Mountain Hawks to a school record tying 14 victories and their first-ever appearance in the Patriot League championship game.
