“Our schedule is great, we have three national class meets,” explained Etters, who enters his third season. “The type of championship-level competition that we're going to face will definitely prepare us well.”
Following the home opener, the Brown and White will travel to the Iona Meet of Champions at the historic Van Cortlandt Park course in the Bronx, N.Y. on September 18. The Mountain Hawks will then turn their attention to rival Lafayette in a dual meet scheduled for September 25 in Easton, Pa.
Lehigh then makes its longest journey of the season when it travels to University Park, Pa. to take part in the Penn State National Invitational on October 16, while the remainder of the squad will compete in the Lafayette Invitational. Utesch was pleased to be competing at both courses, which will play host to bigger meets later in the season.
“We are happy to compete at Lafayette and Penn State's courses during the regular season,” said Utesch, who enters her 14th season. “That will give us an opportunity to review those courses and make adjustments for the Patriot League Championship (at Lafayette) and the NCAA's (at Penn State).”
Lehigh will travel back to Penn State for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Qualifiers on November 13. The top two teams in the competition will advance to the NCAA Championship on November 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The women's team returns 11 runners from last year, including junior Katherine Pierce, an All-Patriot League first team selection in 2009. The men's squad returns 16 student-athletes from the previous season, including senior Evans Kosgei, a first-team All-Region selection.
