The month of March was an exhilarating one for the Lehigh men’s basketball team as the Mountain Hawks won just their second-ever Patriot League Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history. Lehigh defeated archrival Lafayette 74-59 on March 12 inside Stabler Arena to win the 2010 Patriot League title, and one week later in Oklahoma City the Mountain Hawks gave the nation’s number-one team, the Kansas Jayhawks, all it could handle in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lehigh women’s basketball team completed its most successful season in program history in 2009-10 and as a result the Mountain Hawks have been heavily featured across the country and the Lehigh Valley. The Brown and White clinched its second straight Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament berth with a 58-42 win over American in the rubber match of the series on March 13. The Mountain Hawks then hit the road to Ames, Iowa, where they took on the host Iowa State Cyclones in the first round. After a slow start against the Cyclones, the Mountain Hawks couldn’t recover as Iowa State moved onto the second round. Despite the loss, Lehigh still held its heads up high after completing such a memorable season. Check out the Mountain Hawks magical ride through March here.
