Lehigh heads to Georgetown seeking outright PL title, playoff berth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Two teams heading in opposite directions meet Saturday afternoon as Lehigh battles Georgetown at Multi-Sport Field. The Mountain Hawks clinched a share of their ninth Patriot League title last Saturday when they downed Holy Cross 34-17 for their fifth straight win overall. Chris Lum threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns as he was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. Lehigh can win the Patriot League title outright and pick up its first NCAA playoff berth since 2004 with a win on Saturday. Georgetown won three of its first four games in 2010 but has since lost five-in-a-row. The Hoyas were idle last weekend and lost to Fordham 24-19 in their last game back on October 30.

One of the major factors behind Lehigh's five game winning streak is the improved play of the Mountain Hawks defense. In its last five games, the Lehigh "D" has allowed just 15 points per game and just 314 yards per game overall. The Mountain Hawks held Holy Cross to just 296 yards last week. Lehigh leads the league in scoring defense, yielding 20 points per game. The Mountain Hawks pass defense has improved significantly, allowing 193.2 yards per game over their last five outings as opposed to 264.8 in Lehigh's first four games. Lehigh has been especially tough in the red zone, allowing opponents to score a league-best 73 percent of the time.

Lehigh's current five-game winning streak has garnered the Mountain Hawks attention in both national polls. The Mountain Hawks are the top team among others receiving votes in both The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top-25 College Football Poll and the FCS Coaches Poll. If Lehigh cracks the top-25 this season it will mark the first time in the national rankings for the Mountain Hawks since they were ranked 22nd in the final regular season polls in 2005. Lehigh also comes in at No. 8 in this week's ECAC Lambert Meadowlands FCS top ten.
Saturday's game gets underway at 1:00 from Multi-Sport Field in Washington, D.C. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 as well as Lehighsports.com with Matt Kerr, Kody Fedorcha '00 and ESPN Radio's Matt Markus on the call. Pre-game coverage gets underway at noon.
