146th Lehigh-Lafayette game set for Saturday in Easton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh clinched the outright Patriot League championship and a FCS playoff berth on Saturday. Now the Mountain Hawks can shift focus to the 146th meeting of college football's most-played rivalry as Lehigh meets Lafayette at Fisher Stadium. Lehigh shook off a slow start to defeat Georgetown 24-7 Saturday in Washington. The win propelled Lehigh into the national rankings as the Mountain Hawks come in at No. 22 in both polls. Lehigh will be looking to defeat its arch rival for the third straight time. Lafayette will be looking to end its season on a high note. The Leopards are just 2-8 and will finish with a losing record for the first time since 2003. Lafayette lost 37-27 to Holy Cross last weekend at home.
 
The Mountain Hawks' rushing attack has improved significantly over the last four games. Lehigh rushed for a season-high 209 yards against Holy Cross on November 6 and has averaged 173 yards on the ground over the last four games. Senior Jay Campbell rushed for a season-high 118 uards on 18 carries in the win over Georgetown. Campbell leads Lehigh with 556 yards and five rushing touchdowns in 2010.
 
With its win over Georgetown Lehigh secured its eighth FCS (formerly I-AA) playoff berth and its first since 2004. Lehigh's win on Saturday marked the fourth time the Mountain Hawks clinched an NCAA playoff berth the week prior to facing arch rival Lafayette. Lehigh owns a 3-0 record against the Leopards in games following the clinching of an FCS playoff berth.
 
Saturday's game will kick-off just after 12 p.m. in Easton. The game is sold out so those wishing to watch the 146th meeting can tune into live coverage on WFMZ-TV as well as Fox College Sports Atlantic and Lehighsports.com. Steve Degler and Mike Yadush '93 will handle the commentary.
