BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh clinched the outright Patriot League championship and a FCS playoff berth on Saturday. Now the Mountain Hawks can shift focus to the 146th meeting of college football's most-played rivalry as Lehigh meets Lafayette at Fisher Stadium. Lehigh shook off a slow start to defeat Georgetown 24-7 Saturday in Washington. The win propelled Lehigh into the national rankings as the Mountain Hawks come in at No. 22 in both polls. Lehigh will be looking to defeat its arch rival for the third straight time. Lafayette will be looking to end its season on a high note. The Leopards are just 2-8 and will finish with a losing record for the first time since 2003. Lafayette lost 37-27 to Holy Cross last weekend at home.
With its win over Georgetown Lehigh secured its eighth FCS (formerly I-AA) playoff berth and its first since 2004. Lehigh's win on Saturday marked the fourth time the Mountain Hawks clinched an NCAA playoff berth the week prior to facing arch rival Lafayette. Lehigh owns a 3-0 record against the Leopards in games following the clinching of an FCS playoff berth.
