Final home game pits Lehigh against Colgate

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh carries a three-game win streak into its final home game of the season as the Mountain Hawks face Patriot League preseason favorite Colgate Saturday afternoon at Goodman Stadium. The Mountain Hawks sit atop the Patriot League standings at 1-0 after downing Bucknell 32-10 last weekend. Sophomore wide receiver Ryan Spadola continued his recent torrid play with 111 receiving yards and three touchdowns en route to being named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week. Colgate comes in at 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League after a heartbreaking last-second 31-24 loss to Holy Cross last weekend. The Raiders are led by the Patriot League's preseason Player of the Year, quarterback Greg Sullivan and the nation's leading rusher in running back Nate Eachus.
One week after tying a school record with 14 receptions in the win over Harvard, Spadola was at it again against Bucknell. Spadola was
named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after becoming the first Mountain Hawk since De'Vaughn Gordon at Fordham last year to catch three TD passes in a game. He is just the second Lehigh player to catch three touchdowns since 2003. The New Jersey native leads Lehigh and ranks second in the Patriot League with 40 receptions for 582 yards and six scores this season. Spadola has caught at least one touchdown in each of Lehigh's last three games.
Lehigh enters Saturday's game last in the Patriot League in total defense, allowing over 380 yards per game. While that may normally be a cause for concern, the Mountain Hawks have done well to keep opponents off the scoreboard. After allowing a season-low 10 points to Bucknell, Lehigh now leads the Patriot League in scoring defense, yielding just 21 points per game. The Mountain Hawks have been especially tough in the red zone, where they rank among the league leaders, allowing opponents to score on just 74% of trips inside Lehigh's 20 yard line. Lehigh will be tested by the Patriot League's top offense, both in yards and scoring.
October is breast cancer awareness month and the Lehigh football program will be doing its part as Lehigh's sixth annual breast cancer awareness week winds down. Lehigh players will be wearing pink ribbon decals on their helmets and Mountain Hawk coaches will also be wearing pink ribbon pins on their outerwear. Lehigh's panhellenic council will be at Goodman Stadium handing out pink bracelets and collecting donations with proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Tickets are still available for the contest and can be purchased in one of three ways: by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall, or by logging onto Lehighsports.com.
