Three touchdown day earns Spadola PL weekly honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh sophomore wide receiver Ryan Spadola has been named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Spadola followed up his career-day at Harvard on October 16 by catching six passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns Saturday in Lehigh's 32-10 win over Bucknell.
This is the first career weekly award for Spadola and the first Offensive Player of the Week award for Lehigh this season. The Mountain Hawks have won three Defensive Player of the Week awards in 2010.
After catching a school-record tying 14 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns the week prior, Spadola kept it rolling against the Bison as he became the first Mountain Hawk to catch three touchdown passes since De'Vaughn Gordon accomplished the feat last year at Fordham, and just the second Lehigh player with three TD receptions since 2003.Spadola opened the scoring by making a one-handed grab of a Chris Lum pass for a 14-yard score on Lehigh's opening possession. The New Jersey native struck again right before halftime, catching another 14-yarder from Lum as Lehigh took a 23-7 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Lum and Spadola hooked up on a 32-yard touchdown, which gave the Mountain Hawks a commanding 29-10 lead. Spadola now has 20 receptions for 317 yards and five touchdowns in his last two games, and has reached the end zone in each of his last three games overall.
Spadola ranks second in the Patriot League in receiving with 40 catches for 582 yards and six touchdowns this season.
The Mountain Hawks (5-2, 1-0 Patriot League) will play their final home game of the season on Saturday when they host the Colgate Raiders at Goodman Stadium.
