Lehigh closes out non-league schedule at Harvard

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh returns to the road for its final non-league game of the season on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks square off against the Harvard Crimson at Harvard Stadium. The Mountain Hawks returned from their bye week with a 21-17 win over Fordham at Goodman Stadium. Junior Mike Groome paced a strong defensive effort with 11 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble on the way to earning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors. Offensively, quarterback Chris Lum returned to the Lehigh lineup and threw for a pair of touchdowns. Harvard comes into Saturday's game at 3-1 following convincing wins over Lafayette and Cornell in its last two outings. The Crimson has rushed for over 330 yards in each of its last two games, while a stingy defense is allowing just 262 yards and 15.5 points per game.
The phrase "bend, but don't break" best describes the Lehigh defense through five games this season. The Mountain Hawks have allowed a Patriot League worst 426.8 yards-per game, but Lehigh is third in the league in scoring defense, yielding just under 24 points per game. Against Fordham, Lehigh gave up over 400 yards for the fourth straight week, but allowed just two touchdowns and a field goal. The Mountain Hawks have been especially tough in the red zone, where they have prevented the opposition from scoring in one out of every four trips, good for second in the league.
After missing the New Hampshire game with an ankle injury, Lum returned to Lehigh's starting lineup against Fordham. He completed 14-of-23 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns in his return to action, and more importantly did not turn the ball over. The Michigan native connected with nine different receivers on the day, including the first career touchdown receptions for Ryan Spadola and Zach Barket. Lum made his first career start last year against Harvard, throwing for 269 yards in a losing effort.
Saturday's game kicks off at noon from Harvard Stadium. There is no television coverage of the game, but it will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 AM as well as Lehighsports.com with pre-game coverage getting underway at 11 a.m.
