Men’s soccer loses to Princeton 1-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The men’s soccer team fell to the Princeton Tigers 1-0 Friday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex giving the Mountain Hawks their first loss of the season. The Mountain Hawks (1-1) came out flat and were not able to get their offense going all night.

“Princeton did a good job of disrupting us,” head coach Dean Koski said. “We didn’t create enough chances to deserve to win tonight.”

Princeton scored the only goal of the game in the 43rd minute off a header from Josh Walburn who was set up by teammate Ben Harms on a cross. That was all the Tigers needed as they held Lehigh scoreless to earn their first victory of the season.

The Mountain Hawks were only able to put one shot on net as they were held to only nine total shots after recording 16 in their season opening win against Stanford.

“We win as a team and lose as a team,” Koski said. “Some guys struggled tonight, we will have to regroup and prepare for Brown.”

Lehigh junior keeper Jonathan Nydell made four saves for the Mountain Hawks and Adam Gazda led the team in shots with three.

If the Mountain Hawks hope to rebound Sunday and spoil Brown’s home opener, they will have to improve their play defensively.

“It begins and ends with defending,” Koski said. “If we're inconsistent defensively we are going to play poorly. We have to work on stepping to the man and winning the first and second ball. If we can get set up defensively our attack will build off that.”

The Mountain Hawks will be taking on a tough Brown team that will be opening its season on Sunday.

“They are always a very good team,” Koski said. “They’re going to bring a great deal of intensity against us.”

Lehigh will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Providence, R.I. to do battle with the Bears at 3 p.m.
