Lehigh ties for 9th at Navy Invite; Marcincin is 4th

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Lehigh finished up action at the 2009 Navy Spring Invitational on Sunday as the Mountain Hawks shot a 313 on the final 18 holes to finish in a tie for ninth place overall with a score of 608.  Freshman Doug Marcincin put the finishing touches on a very strong performance as he tied for fourth overall after shooting a 146 over the course of the two-day tournament.  Marcincin shot a 72 on Saturday and followed that up with a 74 on Sunday.  Johnson & Wales won the team championship with a total score of 579, and was followed by Binghamton (583), Navy (597), St. Francis (Pa.) (602) and George Washington (603).

 

Other Mountain Hawks competing this weekend included Will Robinson who shot a 154 (73, 81) and finished in a tie for 42nd place, Shane Gilroy who tied for 54th place after shooting a 157 (75, 82), Duncan Zeiders, who also tied for 54th (81, 76 = 157) and Steve Suarez, who totaled a 158 (75, 83) and tied for 64th place overall.

Binghamton’s Trevor Fiedler won the individual crown after shooting a 71 on both days (142), while Johnson & Wales had the next two finishers in Nathan Leonhardt (71, 73 = 144) and Chris Hawley (75, 70 = 145).


Lehigh returns to the links on Tuesday when the Mountain Hawks compete in the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational at Saucon Valley Country Club in what will be Lehigh’s final tune up before the 2009 Patriot League Championship.
