“It is an honor for our student athletes to receive this award,” Roseann Corsi, Lehigh’s Public Relations Coordinator explained. “We have created relationships within our community and have touched so many children's lives. It's not all about the award though, it's about the reward our athletes and myself receive when you know you are making a difference in children's lives.”
The following excerpt was taken from the 2006-07 NCAS Annual Report regarding Lehigh’s C.O.A.C.H. Program: The academic year of 2006-07 was comprised of 145 student-athletes who actively participated in a range of 22 programs and events throughout the year. The C.O.A.C.H. Program raised their highest amount of money in 2006-07 donating more than $50,000 to charity. The valiant efforts of Lehigh’s student-athletes led to 496 hours of community service. Through school visits, charities, and events like Adopt-a-Family, the C.O.A.C.H. Program not only gives back to the community but allows Lehigh’s student-athletes to grow and mature into responsible and caring community members, students and athletes.
The NCAS is an ever-growing organization of colleges and universities that provides opportunities for current and former student-athletes to continue their pursuit of higher education, while working in the community with children to address social issues. Over the last 22 years, NCAS member institutions, through their community service and outreach programs, have reached more than 16,567,177 youth nationwide with messages about achieving academic success, finding peaceful solutions to conflicts, and overcoming obstacles such as drugs and alcohol. Since 1985, NCAS student-athletes have given over 18 million hours of community service.
