Lehigh hosts Adopt-a-Family event

Over the course of the semester, the student-athletes from each team raised money in order to buy gifts for their families. Tuesday night, each team made their presentation to their adopted family.
“It’s an awesome thing to do for a family that does not have the opportunities that our team has,” said senior baseball player Joe Matteo. “It’s extremely rewarding to see how happy the younger kids are, and how appreciative they are of this opportunity.”
The teams met with their families, as children were allowed to open some presents on the spot. Santa Claus was on hand to spread holiday cheer, along with the Lehigh Mountain Hawk, and food and drinks were provided to make the evening special for all parties involved.
“Seeing them and seeing the joy on their faces, and seeing everyone in high spirits at this time of the year is an amazing experience,” said Hessemer.
The Adopt-A-Family program is now in its ninth year. By participating in community outreach programs, like Adopt-A-Family, many Lehigh student-athletes are doing their best to make a difference in the community around them.
