CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The NCAA released its first Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report for Fall 2007, and the Patriot League continues to be at the top with 97 percent of its sponsored sports reporting 90 percent or better graduation rates. In addition, 80 of the Patriot League's full-time members' teams reported 100-percent graduation rates in 19 sponsored sports (67 percent). The report focuses on the four-year aggregate of classes that entered college between 1997 and 2000. Lehigh reported 13 of their Patriot League sponsored sports at 100-percent, which was tied with Bucknell and Lafayette for second most in the league behind Holy Cross, which reported 16 sports at 100-percent.
The Patriot League sponsors 23 sports, but the NCAA combines cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field as one sport for this report.
Holy Cross paced the League with 16 sports reporting at 100-percent GSR (out of 19 Patriot League sponsored sports). Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh each followed with 13 of their Patriot League sponsored sports reporting at 100 percent. Holy Cross, Lehigh, Colgate, Navy and Army had all of their sponsored sports reporting 90 percent or better graduation rates.
Every Patriot League sponsored, full-time member football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball team reported a 90 percent or better graduation rate. All seven of the Patriot League's full-time members graduated 100-percent of their student-athletes in women's volleyball, while all six participants graduated 100-percent in softball and all five participants graduated 100-percent in women's lacrosse.
The Patriot League has led Division I in overall Federal Graduation Rates among conferences that award athletically-related aid in each of the last seven years. The NCAA will release each institution's overall Federal Graduation Rate in October.
