BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The NCAA recently honored more than 800 Division I sports teams with public recognition awards for their latest Academic Progress Rates and 14 of the Mountain Hawks athletic programs were on the list. Among those teams honored are baseball, men’s cross country, men’s tennis, wrestling, crew, women’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top ten-percent of all squads in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic team effort.
“These teams prove once again that student-athletes are students first, and many of them are excellent students,” NCAA President Myles Brand said. “I want to personally congratulate these teams and their student-athletes who are working hard in their sport and in the classroom and setting a great example for all students.”
Among Patriot League schools, Lehigh’s 14 honored programs ranks third behind Bucknell’s 15 and Holy Cross’ 14. Lafayette tied with Lehigh and had 14 teams recognized, while Navy had 12 programs honored, Colgate had 11 and American and Army both had three programs recognized.
Multi-year APR scores for all 6,110 Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition awards, will be announced Wednesday, May 2. The announcement also will include immediate and historical penalties for low-performing teams.
